    1534572 Rock cutters DRESSER INDUSTRIES INC 10 March 1976 [24 March 1975] 09592/76 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] A rock cutter of the type having a row of cutting inserts projecting from a surface thereof is provided with anti-erosion inserts which are embedded in the cutter body and which are disposed between the cutting inserts and terminate substantially flush with surface of the body and prevent undue erosion of the body. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, each air-cooled roller cutter 14 has tungsten carbide cutting inserts 16-24 and has antierosion compacts 22 positioned between the gauge row cutting inserts. In the Fig. 2 embodiment, each roller cutter 62 of a raise bit or tunnelling head again has carbide cutting inserts 90 and anti-erosion compacts 92 which are positioned between the inserts in the rows adjacent the ends of the cutter. The cutter is rotatable about a fixed bearing shell 60 keyed to a shaft 58, and lubricant is retained in the cutter by seal assemblies each including a pair of metal seal rings 68, 72; 82, 86 urged into contact by rubber O-rings 66, 70; 80, 84 of which rings 66, 84 engage extensions 88 of the bearing shell while rings 70, 80 engage the cutter.

    (54) Drill bit
    The invention relates to the rotary drilling of ropHbix rocks.
    Known cone drill bits having a housing and rock cutting elements protruding above the housing 1.
    The known drill bit of the drill bit contains a body, rock-breaking elements protruding above the corgus, and inserts pressed flush in the body 2.
    However, during the operation of such a roller cutter in an abrasive environment, rapid hull wear occurs in places of the most intensive contact of the hull with the medium.
    The purpose of the invention is to increase the service life in an abrasive environment.
    This is achieved by the fact that in a drill bit of a drill bit containing a body of rock-breaking elements protruding above the body and inserts pressed flush in the body, the inserts are located in the peripheral rim on the border with the back of the head.
    The drawing shows a roller cutter, a general view.
    The bit of the drill bit contains, case 1, rock-breaking elements 2 protruding above the case, and inserts 3, pressed flush into the peripheral rim 4 at the border with the back of the head part 5 of case 1.
    In the process of working, the cutter body is exposed to abrasive particles (contained in the washing agent and in the zones between the rock-breaking elements 2, as well as the damaging effects of the rock being drilled.
    The boundary zone between the peripheral crown 4 and the occipital part 5 is particularly affected. This area of the coronary area is reinforced.
